A former employee of the global investment firm JBS has resigned after a bullying incident in which he was allegedly filmed punching another employee.
In a statement, JBS said that it was in the “best interests of all concerned” that the employee who is currently on leave leave, and who has been placed on administrative leave, be able to return to work immediately.
The firm said it was unable to confirm the number of employees affected.
The incident happened in May when a male JBS customer service assistant approached the woman to ask if she wanted to be his girlfriend, the firm said.
According to the statement, the female customer service employee was told to sit in the corner, and that she should “be quiet”.
After she left the room, she was then filmed punching the employee in the face and chest.
After the incident, the woman’s husband contacted the police, who reported the incident to the local authorities.
“We are deeply saddened by this incident and have been in contact with the victim’s husband and her employer,” the firm added.
JBS is known for its aggressive work environment, and its employee engagement programs are designed to improve workplace and personal relationships.
The company has been hit with criticism over the past year, and the incident has prompted the resignation of the firm’s former human resources director, after she reportedly said she was scared to go back to work.
