An employee of a private company that employs people at the Northwell Medical Centre in Halifax has been laid off.
The company said in a statement that it had terminated its relationship with the employee.
It is the second time in less than a year that the medical centre has been closed.
The announcement came as Health Canada issued a notice of intent to end its relationship and close its doors.
Health Canada said the company, Medecins Sans Frontieres, had contracted for services that were no longer needed and would not be provided.
The news comes less than two weeks after the health agency announced it was severing its relationship after a year of financial woes.
Health officials said the abrupt change in strategy was a result of the company’s inability to keep up with the increasing number of patients arriving at the hospital.
