“This is a sad day for our team and we are very sorry,” the home department wrote on its Facebook page.
The employee’s employer told ABC News it was aware of the incident and it is investigating the breach.
“We are working closely with the Federal Government to help them get the person back to work safely and quickly,” the company said in a statement.ABC News reached out to Home Depot for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.
The home depot is a major employer in Sydney’s inner north, employing more than 7,500 people.
Home Depot said it was working with authorities to help track down the perpetrator and bring the employee back to the office.
Home Depot employees are often employed as cleaners, home improvement employees, or as contractors.
